Adaptive glasses for colorblind people

There are several compilation videos of people receiving Enchroma glasses and seeing color for the first time (here, here, and in their sidebars).

If you know someone who is colorblind who doesn't have these glasses - what are you waiting for?

MIT Technology Review explains how the glasses work.  I didn't even know they existed.  You learn something every day.

Addendum from reader Drabkikker: Being colorblind typically does not mean you see everything in black and white, but rather that certain colors appear the same to you. What these glasses do is reduce the overlap between those colors, allowing you to distinguish them better.

  1. Interesting and timely. I just saw this ad earlier today: https://youtu.be/zi7R66sgvfU
The ad is for Tennessee's fall foliage and explains how they've installed special viewers at scenic lookouts throughout the state so colorblind people can enjoy the colors. I wondered about the technology but hadn't gotten around to looking into it before I dropped by TYWKIWDBI (admittedly one of the first things I do when I open my browser). I assume the technology is the same.

Impressive and touching, for sure (even if many of these videos are part of a campaign), but it's not "seeing color for the first time". If you can't see color at all (a very rare condition), these glasses won't change that.
