"The Cove"

The trailer is self-explanatory. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature last year, and the Audience Award at Sundance the same year.  The Guardian reports today that the director has sent DVDs of the film to all of the residents of the town.

  1. Awesome! Kudos to him for sending the DVD. Most Japanese weren't even aware of what was going on in Taiji, are horrified when they do learn of it, and don't even eat dolphin meat. And the Japanese government tries to portray the technique as a "humane" killing technique. Video footage recorded just a few weeks ago shows quite clearly the true nature of the killing method. There is absolutely nothing humane about it. Pure torture.

  4. Oops. That link goes to the Japanese version (audio and subtitles both). I'll see if I can track down an English counterpart.

  6. I just watched the movie via library DVD. It's an excellent presentation. For those worried about gore, the slaughter is confined to the last 15 minutes of the film; the rest is devoted to the intelligence of the animals and the problems of mercury poisoning from eating dolphin meat, and the mechanics of creating the documentary.

    Excellent movie.
