Butterfly dress from the 1890s


This blog has featured quite a few butterfly-related items, including ladies dresses (here, here, and here).  This latest addition comes from the curiously-entitled tumblr Sex, vintage, & Royals.

  1. Oh, lovely. Any idea where the original source is? I'd love to get a closer look at the embroidery.

    (Also, I love how the dress gives a sense of three-dimensional shape, instead of just trying for height and minimizing everything else. Yes, I'm nostalgic for an era I didn't live in.)

  2. Mel, to look for an answer I typed "butterfly dress 1890s" into Google Image Search and got lots of hits.
