Unemployment in the United States

An interesting graph, from an article in the Telegraph which focuses mostly on the social consequences of unemployment.  The new peak is of course interesting, but the long-term trend is in my view equally ominous.
A new twist is an apparent decline in the "employment intensity of growth" as rebounding output requires fewer extra workers. As such, it may be hard to re-absorb those laid off even if recovery gathers pace...
