Nipple-zapping student sues his school

A New Hampshire high school student taking an electrical trades class "attached an electrical clamp to one nipple while another student attached another clamp to the other. A third student plugged in the cord."

He and his family are suing the school, claiming that the teacher "did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords..."

The thumbnail at left is a screengrab of a cell phone video, from the Boston Herald, which has additional details re the actions of the teacher, some of which appear to offer justification for a lawsuit.

  1. So did he suffer brain damage before or after the incident?

  3. The teacher might have dropped the ball when in regards to supervision but I'm pretty damned sure the average shop teacher would have gotten around to telling students "Electricity is bad, it can kill you" pretty darned early in the course.

    1. Teachers actually have to do that in America!?!?! ... it seems that most children arround the world kind of know that inherently!

  4. I went to school with kids like this. It doesn't take long to pull a stunt like that. I'd have a hard time blaming the teacher for this.

I miss the good old days when parents would say 'serves you right!' to self-correcting behaviour like this. Now the parents are enraged that no one protected their precious little snowflake from himself.

    bah.

  5. Amy nailed it - what happened to parents just saying, "Don't be that stupid again!"

  6. Parenting styles can vary so much. I remember when I was younger, my cousin was over at our house and she was about 3 or 4. She was jumping on the bed and ended up falling off and hitting the cupboard next to the bed. Her parents immediately started to console her by saying "We'll hit the naughty cupboard for you, the cupboard is bad". We had some family friends over on another occasion and the exact same thing happened (it's a fun bed to jump on), yet the little girl's parents scolded her and told her to apologise to the cupboard for hurting it!

Obviously these parents fall into the former style, and it's pretty depressing how common it's becoming.
