From the National Maritime Museum photostream

Lifeboat crew, Skegness, Lincolnshire (1896)

First class smoking room on the 'Orama' (1911)

Second class barber's shop on the 'Olympic' (1914)

Inuit group (1854)

Look at the size of that lifeboat, and imagine the work entailed in rowing it through stormy seas toward a shipwreck. But the image that impresses me the most is the "Inuit group." The hairstyles are of course elaborate and curious, but the clothing and the general appearance look like a modern family - in a photo taken in 1854!

Photo credit for the lifeboat, smoking room, barber shop, and Inuit group - all from the National Maritime Museum photostream, where there are several hundred more photos.
