"Host in the Post" - Sending Jesus through the mail

Literally. Those who believe the consecrated wafer and wine are the actual body and blood of Christ can now have those items mailed to them at home, without having to attend church to partake of the communion:

In recent years the communion wafer has been made available in a variety of forms - including patterned, wholemeal, crumb-proof and gluten-free - to satisfy the demands of modern life. Soon, altar bread will become even more convenient and accessible with the advent of the "host in the post".

The new service, from the Open Episcopal Church, is aimed at people who either cannot attend Eucharist, through age or ill-health, or those who have drifted away from church.

Although the pre-consecrated wafer is free, there will be a charge for postage and packing. Receiving one host costs £2; receiving 500 costs £10.

Incisive commentary at this Guardian editorial.

  1. My website, below, has been quietly offering to send Communion Wafers and Wine to busy believers since 2006, without ruffling feathers. We at Host in the Post welcome Bishop Blake's late entry into the world of spiritual e-commerce. We think he'll find it hard to match our popular "Pay in the Next Life" offer.
See what you make of it at

  2. your website is incredibly stupid. I love the way the two testimonials are stereotypical hollywood irish names. Not a lot of thought put into it. Not funny.

  3. Thanks for the feedback, Michael.
I had just thought to make it blatantly obvious from the beginning that the site was satirical, but maybe you're right about the names. I'll think about it.
Having made the satirical site you can imagine how intrigued I was when, three years later, Bishop JCB launched the same idea for real!
You're not right about the amount of thought involved in making the site, however. I guess my thought processes are just rather different from yours. Anyway, nice of you to take the trouble to let me know your opinion.
