This is how your hazardous waste is shipped...

... using duct tape!

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State regulators have cited EnergySolutions for its part in a hazardous materials leak of radiation-tainted solvent from the duct-taped hose on a shipping tanker.

The Utah Division of Radiation Control issued a notice of violation to the company on Thursday. The agency is proposing a $2,500 fine and corrective action to make sure the "mid-level" violation isn't repeated...

On March 31 the tanker was hauling about 3,000 gallons of toxic sludge between an EnergySolutions facility in Clive, Utah and an incinerator in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The leak was discovered at a weigh station in Price.

A Carbon County hazardous materials team found up to a half-gallon of material had come from the broken hose. No radiation was detected. A manifest included in a county incident report shows the truck's contents included low-level radioactive waste and hazardous chemicals that included phenol, PCBs and benzene...
