Church takes down "scary crucifix"

St. John's Church in West Sussex has taken down the crucifix which used to be displayed on the outside of the building (additional pix here and here). The dramatic 10-ft image, created in the 1960s and sculpted out of coal ash and resin was "putting people off."

The church now wants to portray "an accurate biblical picture of the crucifixion as a moment of hopefulness for the world, and not one of despair." This new "accurate biblical picture" will be conveyed via a £12,000 stainless steel empty cross of contemporary design.

  1. Jesus was a man that was tortured, beaten, and crucified... yet, people rejoice and use that image as a positive... I don't understand religious people....

  2. His death was never meant to be glorified. And his birthdate was omitted from the Bible so people could NOT celebrate it, it's really not an important day.

A lot of so called "religious" people do not base their teachings on the Bible, but on man-made traditions. Mark 7:7,8
